Audition Waiting Room Etiquette

I admit to having failed Audition Waiting Room Etiquette in the past.

Basically, the number one rule is: Shut up. When I go into an audition, I am as prepared as I possibly can be. If it was meant to be, the role will be mine. However, there are other people who see it very much like a job competition. They aren't there to be your friend and I found that my attempts to be friendly came off poorly. One person even accused me of trying to sabotage her. (Seriously, a mortifying moment.) And actually, even if the other people waiting are your friends, they may be trying to keep in character or focus on their process. If you need to run through your lines, do it in your car, the hallway, or somewhere not in the waiting room. Turn your cell phone off.

The second rule is: Don't listen to anyone else. In another audition, someone sighed dramatically and said that this was the third time she was being brought in for that same movie and she didn't know why... She might as well have said, "They really want to hire me. This role is already mine." Just don't pay attention to comments that like.

Be polite to everyone.

Be aware of how much stuff you're bringing with you. Leave as much as you can in the car. Unless they are your bestie, don't ask someone else to watch your things while you audition. Don't bring your kid (I've never actually seen this--but apparently it has happened).

Arrive no more than 10 minutes early and definitely don't be late. If you are late, don't make a big deal about it. Chances are, they won't even notice. If they have noticed, repeated apologies aren't going to help.

Those are the most important points that I can think of! Did I miss anything? Let me know!
